Seventeen juniors came from all over NSW and the ACT to attend this year’s Junior Development Camp held at Bungarra Jindabyne NSW. This was a particularly successful camp, with good weather (most of the time) and a keen bunch of young cyclists who represent a great future for the sport. We wish them good luck for their riding in the years to come.
This camp is financed from the proceeds of the James Williamson Enduro Challenge cross country mountain race held at Wingello Forest, each year in March. We wish to thank all our race sponsors, Giant Bikes, Shimano, Rubena Tyres, JetBlack, Powerbar, Enduro Magazine, Conceptis, Forestry Corportation, CORC, Radical Lights, Frameskin, Cycle Education, Rocky Trail Entertainment, Chocolate Foot, Wild Horizons and McGees Cycling Store. Without their support of the race, this camp would not be possible. Thanks also for the generous donation received this year, from Bec Henderson from the Duo Classic Race held in 2013.
Thanks also to coaches Dylan Cooper, Jenni King, Ben Henderson, Brendan Johnston and Niki Fisher and also to Niki Fisher for the jersey designs.
Although I never had the pleasure of knowing James Williamson from what I have read and heard he was not only a great mountain biker but a great person and I think this camp is an awesome way to remember and honour him. The food at the camp was great and I never went hungry. The accommodation was perfect, comfortable and with trails leaving from almost the front door!
What do you get when you put Coops, Hendo, Trekky, The Core King and the Fish together with seventeen junior mountain bikers at a long weekend in Jindabyne?
You get a heck of a lot of fun, encouragement, wisdom, skill and random dumb stuff!! These coaches and the helpers (Meg, Brendan, Karen, Steve and John) put in a massive effort to make this a jam-packed and memorable weekend. We learnt so much: skills, nutrition, core, bike maintenance and also what not to do like wreck your front wheel going round a corner (thanks Harry)! Hungry stomachs were filled to the brim every hour or two by the great staff at Bungarra. Thanks to the whole team who made this camp happen! Willo lives on… See you all at the Enduro Challenge in March 2015.
